My name is Nicola Wakeman and I am the founder of new local recruitment business E-Quality Constructors (hereby referred as EQC). For the last 15 years, I have worked as a Senior Project Manager in the Nuclear and Defence industries, working on high value new build and refurbishment schemes for major clients. I have five young children for whom I’m motivated to make a difference to their professional futures and worklife. I have tried to inject my own personality and attributes into my business and this website, hence these pages are complimented with thought-provoking quotes and captions, which hopefully you will enjoy!
During my career I have seen the many resourcing challenges for clients, and experienced first hand the impact of resource gaps on delivery, even on projects critical to the UK economy. I have also seen barriers to entry into these industries which is counterproductive to the increased workforce demands anticipated for the future. Furthermore, I have first hand experience of the issues around equality in the workplace. My experiences of recruitment organisations has not always been positive. So, now I believe there needs to be an evolution of the recruitment industry in order to support businesses to meet their resource needs. Most recruitment consultancies are operating regionally or nationally, becoming faceless organisations to clients. Building and maintaining relationships with candidates appears to be secondary to filling roles, and AI is threatening to create another barrier to this relationship.
My vision is to create a recruitment business that (only) serves the community in which it operates. A business that embeds itself in the community and becomes a trusted vital contributor to the local economy by matching local people with local businesses. A company whose foundations are built on clients and candidates trust, that enables business growth and longevity. A company that can actually demonstrate its core values, including championing for equality and diversity and supplementary community work. I want EQC to become a 'staple local business' - a business that is considered an essential part of the community that provides a consistent and valuable service. Ultimately, EQC needs to be instrumental to a crucial change in the way people are hired, welcomed and treated in the workplace. I have chosen the Lady Justice image in my logo, being an allegorical figure symbolizing justice, typically depicted with a blindfold, scales, and a sword. The blindfold represents impartiality, ensuring decisions are made without prejudice. The scales symbolize weighing evidence and the balance of justice, while the sword represents the power to enforce justice.
E-Quality Constructors will differentiate from other recruitment consultancies by the mission and core principles it will operate on. Read on to learn more.
We want to build partnerships with local clients, operating in Gloucestershire, to match them to local candidates. Many businesses state that they are unable to address skills gaps in their workforce. We propose now is the time to think outside the box and explore new (and emerging) talent pools to help overcome these challenges. We want to support and represent local candidates, including those that may otherwise be overlooked by others, into work thereby positively contributing to the local economy. We will establish connections with locally operating education institutes, charities and government schemes that support groups including the under-represented, the disadvantaged and the next generation including;
We want to champion those that may typically be overlooked and convince local businesses of the benefits in widening the talent pool. We will truly get to know and understand our clients needs and our candidates skills and attributes. Valuing trust above all else, we will never poach back placed candidates.
During March to May 2025, EQC has transitioned from concept to inception. The publication of this website now moves EQC into launch, and the key focus to support the above mission is establishing and building relationships with clients and candidates, in parallel. Therefore, if any businesses would like to reach out to me to establish a resourcing partnership, please get in touch via the link at the bottom of this page. To anyone looking for work now, or potentially in the future, please also contact me using the email link on the 'Candidates' page.
