 My name is Nicola Wakeman and I am the founder of new local recruitment business E-Quality Constructors (hereby referred to as EQC). For the last 15 years, I have worked as a Senior Project Manager in the Nuclear and Defence industries, working on high value new build and refurbishment schemes for major clients.  My name is Nicola Wakeman and I am the founder of new local recruitment business E-Quality Constructors (hereby referred to as EQC). For the last 15 years, I have worked as a Senior Project Manager in the Nuclear and Defence industries, working on high value new build and refurbishment schemes for major clients. I also have supporting Civil Engineering, Project Management and Recruitment qualifications. I have five young children for whom I’m motivated to make a difference to their professional futures and worklife.  


I believe I can offer a valuable recruitment service, based on my many interactions with and use of recruitment agencies during my career, both as a candidate and a client. This has given me insight to the improvements that could be made in the Recruitment industry, and has helped to inform my business ethos and strategy, which ultimately aims to address the sometimes negative views and experiences of clients and candidates alike.

A company that can actually demonstrate its core values, including championing for equality and diversity and showcasing our community work. The vision is to become a 'staple local business' - a business that is considered an essential part of the community that provides a consistent and valuable service. We want EQC to be a key contributor to local businesses sustainability and growth by supplying quality local candidates. But we also want to be of value to local workers, by supporting a positive change in the way people are hired, welcomed and treated in the workplace.

  My industry experience lies within the Energy and Construction industries, both of which are prominent and active in the Gloucestershire area, and will be key to local economic growth. Whilst these industries will form our core services, we also want to support those very early on in their careers and those that may have little to no relevant skill-set. On that basis, we also want to partner with micro and small local businesses that can offer this first step on the skills development ladder. 

We will offer temporary, permanent and contract solutions to our clients, either ad hoc or as a longer-term resourcing partner. Whoever we work with, both clients and candidates, our ultimate aim is to build trust and reputation locally.

Our Mission

We want to offer services (and where relevant, build partnerships) with local clients, operating in Gloucestershire, to match them to local candidates. Many businesses state that they are unable to address skills gaps in their workforce, for current projects, future project and/or succession planning. We propose now is the time to think outside the box and explore new and emerging talent pools to help overcome these challenges. We want to advocate for and represent local candidates, thereby positively contributing to the local economy. We will establish connections with locally operating education institutes, charities and government schemes that support groups including the under-represented, the disadvantaged and the next generation including;

  • women and ethnic minorities
  • people with convictions (including those due for, or preparing for, release)
  • school leavers and young professionals

We want to advocate for those that may typically be overlooked and convince local businesses of the benefits in widening the talent pool. We will truly get to know and understand our clients needs AND our candidates skills and attributes. Valuing trust above all else, we will never poach back placed candidates. 

Our Core Principles

 

  • We will actively integrate into, and support, the local Gloucestershire community.
  • We will advocate for and support the local workforce, with specific focus on the under-represented, the disadvantaged and the next generation.
  • We will build strong relationships with local clients. We commit to not contacting placed candidates about new opportunities.
  • We will work with clients that can demonstrate a commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. 
  • We will work with clients that can demonstrate a commitment to social, environmental and sustainability responsibilities.
  • We will work with candidates that possess or can commit to possessing a strong work ethic.
  • We will not use AI to assess potential candidate suitability. Face-to-face engagement with clients and candidates will be the rule, not the exception.  
  • We will showcase our candidates as people, via their skills, attributes and outcomes of standard psychometric testing, and encourage face to face interviews.
